HAPPY FATHERS DAY!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

To those who are a dad, live with one or have a living father in your life I hope you are developing the “courage to be imperfect” that we have been talking about in recent newsletters.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I recently heard a father, whom I respect, of seven children ranging in ages from 4 to 20 talking about his ideas of what is a “strong” father figure.

The following are five tips I took from the conversation that can help a father parent:

1.      He said that a courageous man knows that he is imperfect.  He makes mistakes, and he isn’t able to live up to all of his expectations.

2.      He admits it when the stance he has taken is       wrong and apologizes and rectifies the situation.

3.      He finds time to fully engage or to be “emotionally available” to his children.

4.      They need him to model doing what he wants them to do.

5.      They need him to make it very clear that he values them.

This is a tall order but remember you don’t have to do it perfectly.

Warmly,

Melody
